My cancer diagnosis

I will never forget the day I was told I had cancer.  As an attorney I had worked on cases involving the delayed diagnosis of cancer and yet even this experience did not prepare me for hearing those words used to refer to my diagnosis.  By having worked as a delayed diagnosis of cancer lawyer and having learned the symptoms of several different kinds of cancers, including advanced colon cancer, I did not hesitate when I began to experience symptoms myself.  I saw my primary care physician who agreed that even thogh I was too young for regular screening of colon cancer and even though I had no family history of colon cancer (at the time) that I should nonetheless undergo a colonoscopy to rule out cancer as the cause of my symptoms.  The colonoscopy revelaed that I had a large cancerous tumor.  Surgery confirmed that it had already begun spreading and was a stage 3.  Not good news.  And I had a moment of real fear and doubt when I received the news.  But with support of friends and family I underwent chemotherapy and seven years later show no evidence of cancer.  If I had waited even a few months the cancer would have spread further and I most likely would not have survivied.  The lesson for everyone is to make sure to get the right test if you show any symptoms of cancer.  If you are able to catch the cancer early enough you will have more treatment options and a much greater chance of surviving.  If a doctor does not make an appropriate referral or order appropriate tests given complaints of symptoms and the patient eventually passes away due to the cancer then a wrongful death attorney may be able to help the family.
